Microneedling uses fine, sterile needles to create controlled microscopic channels in the skin, and depth is what matters most. Your nurse adjusts it for each area, lighter on delicate skin and deeper where skin is thicker, so you’re treated precisely, not uniformly. Any change in appearance builds gradually over the weeks that follow.
Both of our devices, CODE-X and SkinPen, are included on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods, and every treatment uses a new sterile needle cartridge.
THE COSMEDICA APPROACHYour Registered Nurse begins with your skin: its condition, barrier health, pigmentation tendency, any scarring pattern and what you’d like to improve.
We usually begin gently, then go deeper only when your skin and concern call for it. Some skin benefits from preparation before needling, and that decision is part of your plan. If another treatment would suit your concern better, we’ll say so and explain where we’d begin.
Good microneedling starts with understanding the skin we are treating.
The Starting Point Matters.
WHAT TO EXPECT-
Before Your Treatment
Your nurse listens to how your skin has been feeling, then reassesses it alongside your health history, recent treatments and sun exposure. They explain what they recommend and why, along with the expected benefits and potential risks, and if your skin needs preparing first, they’ll tell you.
-
During Your Treatment
Your skin is cleansed and prepared, and we discuss comfort measures before we begin. Sensation varies with the area and depth, and you may notice a scratching, vibrating or prickling feeling as the device moves across your skin. Your nurse checks in throughout, and your comfort guides the pace.
-
After Your Treatment
Redness is common straight after, along with warmth, tightness or dryness, and for a few days your skin may feel slightly rough as it settles. Most people notice this for 24 to 72 hours, with gentler treatments often settling sooner. Before you leave, we explain your aftercare, including gentle skincare and daily sun protection, and when to contact us.

Questions About
Microneedling
-
Yes. Your appointment begins with a full assessment, so your nurse can confirm microneedling is safe and suitable for you, and we check in on any changes at each visit. Tell us about active acne, infections or cold sores, pregnancy or breastfeeding, a history of keloid or raised scarring, medications (including some acne treatments and blood thinners), recent treatments and sun exposure, as these can affect suitability and timing. If microneedling isn’t right for you now, we’ll explain why and recommend preparation or an alternative first. For full details, please contact the clinic.

Sensation varies with the area and depth, from a scratching or vibrating feeling to something more noticeable on bonier areas. If discomfort is on your mind, your nurse will talk through your options at your appointment. Afterwards, redness, warmth, tightness and sensitivity are common for 24 to 72 hours, with light flaking or a sandpaper-like texture for a few days. Gentler treatments often settle sooner, while deeper treatments can take a little longer. Tiny pinpoint dots or fine crusting can appear where the needles entered.
Risks include pigmentation changes, infection, burns, scarring or altered sensation. These are uncommon, and your nurse explains them before you decide.
-
Most people benefit from a course rather than a single treatment, beginning gently and building from there, because changes in appearance build gradually over the weeks and months that follow. Your nurse recommends the number and spacing at your assessment, based on your skin and what you’d like to improve.
-
It can, depending on the scarring. Rolling and boxcar scars tend to respond best, while ice-pick scars often need a different approach. The appearance of pores is partly related to skin type and oiliness, so results vary. Your nurse assesses your scarring pattern, explains what improvement is realistic and tells you when another treatment would suit you better.
-
It can be considered, with care. Pigmentation changes are a recognised risk, particularly in skin prone to post-inflammatory pigmentation, including some deeper skin tones. Your nurse considers your skin type, pigmentation history and sun exposure, may recommend preparing your skin first, and chooses the depth carefully.
-
Active inflammatory acne, infection or disrupted skin usually means treatment should wait, because needling can irritate inflamed skin. Your nurse will recommend settling your skin first, then reassess whether microneedling suits you.
-
We usually begin with CODE-X, our gentler device, for a first treatment or a refresh, and your nurse adjusts the depth for each area. SkinPen is chosen when your skin and concern call for deeper treatment, which can mean a little more recovery time. Both are included on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods, with a new sterile needle cartridge for every treatment. SkinPen comes as a single-use kit with a cartridge, glide gel and take-home serum, and its price reflects the device and the kit.
-
Microneedling suits texture, pores and shallow scarring. RF microneedling combines needling with radiofrequency energy and takes longer, suiting more established scarring and concerns involving skin firmness. Your nurse recommends the best starting point, and sometimes that’s microneedling first.
Not Sure Microneedling Is Right for Your Skin?
Your nurse begins with an assessment, so we can confirm microneedling suits you, how deep we’d begin, and whether another treatment would suit your concern better.
